Browse Offline: the Player's Atlas
Everything your DM revealed to you during a session stays on your device. Not a cache that expires, not a link back to the DM's phone: real copies of the maps, photos, and clues, sitting in local storage and readable with the session over and no network at all.
Getting in
From the app's very first screen, tap Browse Offline. Its subtitle reads "Read your campaigns, no session needed", and no session is what it means. The screen that opens is titled Browse Offline with a green OFFLINE badge beside the title, and it lists every campaign this device holds a player copy of.
Each row shows:
- The campaign name.
- Last session and the date and time your last session with that campaign ended. A campaign that never carried a session stamp shows its Created date instead, so the row always tells you something real rather than "not synced yet".
Above the list sits the honest caption for the whole feature: "Your view as of the last session you attended · read-only." Nothing here updates itself. A map your DM revealed on a night you missed is not in here. Play the next session and it arrives.
If the list is empty you get "No campaigns to browse yet." and a prompt to join a session with your DM first. That is the only way a player copy is created. See chapter 15, Joining as a Player.
What is inside
Tap a campaign row and it opens with two tabs along the bottom, Atlas and Map. It opens on Atlas.
The Atlas tab is the same player Atlas you use during a game, with the same sub-tabs: Maps, Assets, and Rules. There is no Encounters sub-tab, because there never is one for a player. Encounters are the DM's private prep. Sections drill the same way they do live: tap a section to open it, and the back arrow in the top bar takes you back out.
- Maps lists the sections holding at least one map your DM revealed to you. Tapping a map puts it on the Map tab and switches you there. There is no map detail screen offline, because a detail screen carries editing controls that have no business in a read-only copy.
- Assets holds the photos and clues you were shown. Tapping one jumps to its pin on the map and pulses it if it is pinned somewhere; if it is not pinned, it opens full screen instead, where you can pinch to zoom in on the handwriting.
- Rules is the bundled reference, which was never online in the first place. Chapter 35, The Rules Reference, covers it.
The Map tab shows the map itself: pan, zoom, and read the pins. Pins keep the colors from your last session, so the note your friend left is still in their color instead of a wall of gray.
Reopening a campaign lands you on the map you had open last time, and that memory is kept per campaign, so two campaigns never muddle each other.
Read-only, on purpose
You cannot add anything here. No new note pins, no Add Map button, no edits to what is already there. The green OFFLINE badge stays in the top bar the whole time as the reminder.
This is not a missing feature. The DM's device is the source of truth, and no DM is listening while you browse. A note written into a disconnected copy would either be lost at the next session or fight with the DM's version. Write it on paper, and place it on the map when the table is live.
Getting rid of a copy
Each row has a ⋯ menu on the right.
- On a player copy, the item reads Delete '<name>' from this device. Tapping it deletes, with no second confirmation dialog: the app takes you at your word, and rejoining the campaign rebuilds the copy anyway. You get a message confirming what was deleted.
- On a device that also authors that campaign, the item is different: Clear received session data. It removes only what this device received while playing and leaves your own authored maps, assets, and encounters untouched. If some of your own content is sitting on received content, for example a pin of yours on a map the DM sent, the app refuses, names how many items are in the way, and removes nothing.
Either action is refused mid-transfer: "Still receiving from a session, nothing was deleted. End the session and try again."
On a Mac or Windows machine this same picker carries one extra control per campaign, Send to phone, for pushing a player copy to a paired phone. That belongs to chapter 32, Moving a Campaign to Another Device.
